From
2001 to the summer of 2002 I lived in Yemen, Oman and
the United Arab Emirates.
I wish I could have traveled more in Yemen but I was quite
restricted due the instability of the
government, kidnapping and the strong anti-Americanism that
existed on the streets. Basically I was only allowed
to leave Sanaa if I have armed escorts, which usually consisted
of a jeep tailing behind me filled with Yemeni Army guys.
Living
in Muscat and Dubai , on the other hand, was pretty fun and
totally stress free. I traveled all over both countries.
It was very easy to get around all the street signs were
in English and the roads where better than most American
roads. Once or twice I rented a 4x4 and did some “wadi
bashing”,
driving off-road up dry riverbeds.
